I don't talk about my faith often, but I feel (and hope) it comes across in everything I do. I like to say I'm spiritual, not religious, but I do attend a local church I love regularly. I believe we should take the best, most positive parts of every religion and mash them up together to make a Universal religion where everyone and every faith is accepted.
When I found out today was National Day of Prayer it made me question how much I pray. A lot of times I fall asleep trying to pray for those friends and family around me who may be having a difficult time. Once I make sure I've prayed for those I love I pray for my husband, my son and myself: mostly asking God to keep us safe, healthy and happy (that's really all you need in life). Most of the time I thank God for all he has given me. "'Thank you' is the best prayer that anyone could say," according to Alice Walker, American author and activist who wrote the critically acclaimed novel The Color Purple.
With today being National Day of Prayer, I'd like to branch out and pray for our Nation, as well as all other Nations, and make sure I take more time than the 5 minutes before I fall asleep. I am going to pray for peace, happiness, and serenity for all. Sometimes that's all it takes to make a difference. A simple prayer and a positive thought.
I hope you join me and the millions of others who pray daily, but especially today.
